Observations of Romans 3:10-12
*Note: The small group discussion for this passage was preparatory, taking place before the study.*
In Romans 3:10-12, Paul's prayerful meditation and systematizing of Scripture on the doctrine of human sin led him to the Psalms. Compare/contrast and pray through Psalm 14:1-3; Psalm 53:1-3; and Romans 3:10-12 in preparation for our study. We will come back together to talk about our findings. For reference, the passages are listed below:
PSALM 14
To the choirmaster. Of David.
1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
there is none who does good.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man,
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.
3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
PSALM 53
There Is None Who Does Good
To the choirmaster: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David.
1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.
3 They have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
ROMANS 3:10b-12
“None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
