Application of Psalm 51

*Note: The small group discussion for this passage was preparatory, taking place before the study.*
We have been discussing the different words David uses to describe sin in Psalm 51: Transgression, iniquity, sin/sinner.
- Sin: to miss the mark no matter how close you come. Discuss: Provide an example of a time time you have come close to success or getting it right and failed.
- Iniquity: to be warped or twisted. Discuss: Provide an example of a time you were sure you were right but later realized you were wrong.
- Transgression: intentionally sin and rebel. Discuss: Provide an example of a time in your life when you intentionally did something you knew was wrong and didn't care.
This week our focus is on Psalm 51:7-10.
- Discuss: Have you ever had a time in which you thought you were in trouble with someone and then realized he or she wasn't mad at you. Use this as an example of a restored relationship that David is talking about about.
- Discuss: Why does God have to create the clean heart? Why can't we do it ourselves? Because God has to restore us--we are twisted (iniquity). We can't straighten ourselves out because we are the problem
