1. Obedience Begins with God's Character (Deuteronomy 7:9-10)
   • Yahweh is the God.
   • Yahweh is the faithful God.
   • Yahweh is faithful to those who love to keep His commands
   • Yahweh faithfully judges God-haters.
2. God Commanded Israel to Destroy Paganism (Deuteronomy 7:1-5)
   • Three negative commands:
     • Make no covenant with them.
     • Show them no mercy.
     • Don't intermarry with them.
   • Four positive commands:
     • Break down their altars.
     • Smash their pillars.
     • Cut down their Asherim.
     • Burn their carved images.
3. God's People Are Set Apart (Deuteronomy 7:6-8, 11)
4. Conclusion
   • We are at spiritual war--guard yourself by keeping God's commands.
   • Our idolatry leaves us weary--let Jesus love for you.
   • Purge idolatry from your life in a discipling community.
   • For unbelievers, we were all God-haters once.
